Staff Canteen with a Touch of Humanity

The staff canteen, designed by Jia-Ru Chen, showcases a unique blend of American style and humanity. The entire overhaul of the previous structure aimed to create a dining space that not only catered to the needs of the employees but also reflected the company's dedication to innovation and creativity.

The design features a combination of wood veneers and black gaps, enhancing the linear elements and adding a touch of sophistication. The use of hollow display cabinets constructed with wood planks and metals exposes the humanity attractions, while the irregular design styles of the employees' wood lockers consolidate the furnishings.

The space, spanning 90 square meters, incorporates various elements to create a vibrant and energetic atmosphere. The staff recreational area, located at the entrance of the dining room, features dark walls and tall display cabinets, showcasing vivid colors that manifest the space's vitality. On the opposite side, a bar area adorned with a black counter extending along the wall creates a laid-back mood.

The linear dining area, situated at the rear of the bar, offers a contrasting ambiance with its white and blue-gray walls and elegant seats for two. The broad windows allow natural light to filter in, enlivening the space. Suspended lightings sporadically decorated throughout intensify the delicate allurements of the American-style design.

The design team, consisting of Jia-Ru Chen and Josh Luo, faced several challenges during the project. Overcoming creative, technical, and research obstacles, they successfully incorporated delicate calcium silicate boards in the rear linear space, expanding the visual perception and creating a cheerful sense of sight.

This innovative staff canteen design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. The award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. It highlights the integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
